Rock The Dock
July 16, 2011
Moonlight, flickering Tiki torches, boats decorated with flags and lights, rocking music, delicious food and drink, and 167 of your favorite people...sounds like a party! Rock the Dock
was all of that and more! Thanks to an amazing nexus of a great idea, organization, a little friendly competition, and perfect weather, the Senior Entertainment Committee, MRYC volunteers, and MRYC employees created a magical night.
The evening began with cocktails and appetizers on the dock. Brave boat owners prepared their specialty cocktails and tasty hors doevres and served them from their boats to curious partygoers, eager to take a peak inside. All of the boat owners were wonderfully creative, with hand built tiki huts, themed clothing and mascots, signage, and most of all...great food and drinks! Volunteers on land grilled up some shrimp and veggie kabobs, and an open bar served the classics. All the while, Turnpike Mike and Rockin’ Randy were playing some of the best summer music imaginable.
As the sun set, dinner was served. The kitchen crew created a feast of pulled smoked pork, chicken, hot dogs, veggies, and salads, specially prepared from family recipes. After days of smoking meat, grilling, chopping, and slicing...the volunteers and committee members were rewarded by the smiles of club members and guests as they tucked into their plates! The moon came up, the stewards passed cookies and watermelon, and the night ended with Turnpike Mike and Rockin’ Randy getting everybody up on their feet!
A special thanks to all of the people who made this event a success! It was no small feat, and could not have been done without the army of club volunteers and MRYC staff who gave of their time and talent!
