Pram Race, Jan. 1, 2013
The Annual New Year's Pram Race is always a fun way to begin the new year.  This year the sailors raced up river to the home of John and Mary Alice where they enjoyed refreshments in front of a warm fire before racing the return leg back to the club.  Thank you to the Harkraders for hosting us, the Committee for keeping us safe, and Win for taking such great pictures.  View photos by Win.

GIVING TREE, Dec. 15, 2012

Hello All,

On behalf of the Jr. Entertainment Committee, we would like to extend our deepest thanks and gratitude to all the Members that participated in our Giving Tree donation event.

We collected a lot more items and gift cards than we anticipated.  Even Laura Abadrabo, the Giving Tree organizer, was shocked at the amount of donations our MRYC members provided.

We also had a lot of Jr. Members visit our donation table and enjoy the hot chocolate and yummy treats while they chatted with Santa Claus.  Santa was very eager to discuss what was on the children's wish lists and was even stumped by a few challengers.  It was funny to watch.

In light of recent events it was really special for MRYC to be able to give to the children of our community who were the recipients of most if not all of the donations.

Happy Holidays and Stay Safe-
Jr. Entertainment Committee

Runners-up were: Karin Wingard and Denise McDonald, winners were Kathy North and Sue Hope. Congratulations to everyone.  Thank you to Kathie Parker for organizing a great day, and thank you to Cherie Matthews for taking a great picture.   View picture

Change of Watch Brunch, Feb. 5, 2012

MRYC families said "Farewell and Thank You" to the outgoing Officers and Trustees and "Welcome" to the new ones at the traditional Change of Watch Brunch held at the club on Sunday, February 5th.  Also introduced and welcomed were five families who recently joined the club.  Everyone enjoyed the delicious brunch prepared by Ron Boedart, Phil Beisel and kitchen crew.  Ron Boedart won "Volunteer of the Year 2011" for his outstanding service to the club and was awarded an official MRYC  cutting board.   View Win Miller's great photos of the event.

During the annual New Year's Day Pram Race, Past Commodores Rob Zilai and Dick Carton took an unexpected swim in the frigid waters of the Manasquan River when a gust of wind toppled their over-canvased Pram sailboat.  Read Rob's exciting first-hand account of the race and capsize, and view Win Miller's photgraphic documentation of events.

Farewell To 2011, Dec. 31

Thank you to Sharon Borgatti, Jane Carton, Holly St Clair, Heather Larson, Jack and Mary Tassini, John Dietz, Nancy Kerr, Janet Davis, and Lynn Miller who prepared a fantastic spread of both sweet and savory. As always, the staff and stewards successfully made the evening seamless. The club looked beautiful, still dressed in its holiday finery thanks to Lynn Miller, Melanie Flynn, and the Ladies’ Auxiliary. It was a perfect ending to an eventful year and a wonderful segue into the exciting year to

Winter Sailing Continued on Dec. 18, 2011

After a cold (30°F) but delightfully sunny day of racing in shifting NW wind, the Winter Series sailors, committee and patrol retired to the clubhouse for a delicious hot meal of meatballs and pasta prepared by our faithful Pramettes. The meal was followed by a cookie swap which provided everyone with a wide selection of home made cookies to be enjoyed over the holidays.  See a few photos of the dinner, plus Win's photos of the sailing action.  Next on the schedule is the special New Year's Day race at 12 noon.

True Belivers' Party, Dec. 17, 2011
Junior Entertainment had a stellar turnout on December 17th where 115 members dined on a scrumptious breakfast prepared by Doug Emich, Mark Morro and Pentti Ehrola – the expanded menu was a huge hit!
All the children anxiously waited to spot the “SS Santa” out on the river and made some beautiful crafts until Santa and his Elf were seen!  The kids were smilin

g ear to ear, parents were “choked up”, and it was truly an amazing morning!  This breakfast is definitely a great way to get in the Christmas spirit and kickoff the holiday season.
A special thanks to all those who made this event so wonderful including Brenda Fuller, Jennifer Marriott, Beth Smith, Betsy Tracy, Ned Thomson, Mary Lee Stamos, Nancy Wagner, Christine Lucarelli, Anne Nissim, Barbara Grasso, Tara Healey, MRYC Staff, Junior Entertainment Committee, Jayne Droge, and the House Committee for once again decorating the club so beautifully!
Also, we were overwhelmed with how many of you brought stocking stuffers that surely helped brighten someone’s Christmas!  Mary Lee Stamos kindly took her children to drop off the Huge Stocking to Family & Children’s Services in Long Branch, and they were extremely gracious!
Best wishes for a Happy, Healthy New Year!!!

Winter Sailing, Dec. 4, 2011

Another Glorious Day of Winter Sailing Followed by a Fantastic Feast!
The race committee skillfully executed six races for the nine competitors on a sunny warm afternoon.  Afterwards, our fabulous Pramettes, Melanie, Nancy & Suzanne, served up a delicious meal of sliders, pigs in a blanket, and numerous tasty accompaniments in celebration of the 54th anniversary of the Burger King Whopper.

Our faithful photo bug, Win, got some great shots of everyone both on and off the water, including the Burger Queen and King (left).

The 26th Annual Winter Series Gets Underway Nov 13, 2011

•   Sailors and committee get up at dawn for the 8:00 am first race start.
•   Sandi T. gives up the helm after 17 yrs of coordinating the popular "pram dinnners".
•   Win Miller takes a record 255 photos of the racing.

It was a great day, in spite of the early start.  The weather was warm and sunny and the wind was steady.  Returning skippers Riley Kernan, PJ Brown, John Deitz, Rick Zimmerman, Sharon Bogatti and their crews were joined by newcomer Ed Flynn and his daughter Kelly for five races.  Following the races, the new pram dinner coordinators, Suzanne Kernan, Melanie Flynn and Nancy Brown served up a delicious meal of sausage frittata, crumb cake, assorted bagles, pasta, spinich salad, OJ and bloody marys, continuing the 17 year tradition established by Sandi Thomson.  more>>

Sailing Awards Dinner, Nov. 12, 2011

The Annual Sailing Awards Dinner took place Saturday evening, Nov. 12.  Were you there?  If so, we're betting you had a wonderful time, thanks in part to the delicious dinner prepared by Phil Biesel, Ron Boedart and crew.   We enjoyed Win's slide show  "MRYC Yachting 2011". Awards were presented to the winners and qualifiers of the Frostbite Series, Spring M-Scows, Off-Shore Summer Series and Fall M-Scows. The evening concluded with Laurie Cummins being voted winner of the coveted “Rebecca Nefertiti Dubious Moments in Sailing” award. more>>
Chile Chowder Cook-Off, Oct. 16, 2011

(Click photo for full size image.)

Following the Fall Series sailboat racing on October 16th (read John Deitz's colorful notes), the sailors and their families took part in the annual Chili/Chowder Cook-Off.  After everyone had tasted the delicious entries and cast their votes, Sue Deitz emerged as winner of chowder category and Carol Paterson and Stephen Wagner achieved a tie for best chili.  All entries must have been deemed winners considering there was scarcely a spoonful left in any of the pots.  Trophies were also awarded for top finishers in the first race of the day, The Chili/Chowder Bowl.  Third place went to P.J. Brown, second Reily Kernan and first Tim Faranetta of LYC.  Thanks to everyone who helped make the day such a success, both on and off the water.  View Win Miller's photos of the racing in blustery west winds.

Kraft Beer Tasting Was A Blast!, October 15, 2011

Oh my goodness!  The club looked so festive, decked out in pumpkins, mums, glittering candles, and  colorful fall leaves. Nancy's idea to give MRYC pilsners to the guests was genius.  The food was spectacular.  Ron, Phil, and the kitchen crew outdid themselves.  Thank you to Laurie for providing such delicious piggy delicacies!  And who could be complain with 12 kinds of beer to sample!  The hardworking staff made the evening go smoothly and kept everything neat and tidy. Thank you to everyone who gave their time and talent to the event.  We pulled off another great affair!  Such fun!  Although I did not see son said that earlier in the evening there was a rainbow...he may have just been pulling my leg...

Kudos to you! Food and everything was fabulous!!   ...Nancy Kerr

Co-chairs Sharon Borgatti and Rick Zimmerman express their thanks to the committee:
Thank you so much for making this party such a success!  We had a happy crowd of folks who really seemed to enjoy the opportunity to sample some new wines, eat their way through lots of food, and spend the evening chatting with friends.  The club looked beautiful, the food was tasty, and Mother Nature provided us with a rainbow!  A full moon for Rock the Dock and a rainbow for the Wine Tasting...obviously Mother Nature likes a good party!   Again, please accept our gratitude for all the creative energy and work that went into making this party a success.  Together, we make a very good team.

2011 Duck Boat Regatta, Aug. 26, 2011
Nine of our Jr Sailors traveled to Mantoloking YC Friday, Aug. 26th, to sail in the gala Duck Boat World Championship Regatta. This is always an exciting event, and this year was no exception. Even though racing was delayed in the morning due to lack of wind, and ended early because of the approaching hurricane, three good races were completed in 7-10 mph east winds before everyone returned to the club for a late lunch. Our top finisher was Sophie who took 6th place in the Junior Division. A total of 70 boats were on the starting line. Other members of the team were Casey, Pat K., Roddy, Evan S., George, Mark, Eric and Emily.  To view more photos, go to:     By: Dave K
FILIAL SAIL 2011, AUG. 6, 2011

OMG was it a windy day! We had a strong S/SE wind for our annual Filial Sail but it didn't keep anyone from going out on the water. We had 5 optis, 6 420's, and 2 lasers. Everyone was flying (when they weren't flipped over!!). It was a very exciting day and lots and lots of pictures to document all the parent involvement. Big thanks to Ryan, Eric and Tom keeping everyone safe. Also, very big thanks to all the adults: Dave K, John, Rick, Beth, Mary Jo, Ann Marie, Mike, Rod, Laura, Geoff, Jack. The burgees went to Casey and John for first in the 420s and Dan and Dave for second. Will and Alli took home the burgee for the Optis.  Jean H.    View pictures.

Bingo is one of Jr. Entertainment’s most popular events.  The kids are always so excited to win a fabulous prize of their choice and have a great time with their friends.  Our next bingo is August 17th @ 5pm with the Junior Member dance following at 7:00.  Come out and enjoy a spectacular night!   View photos of July 20 bingo.

Filial Fishing was another success held in July.  Even though the fish were not biting so much, the kids really enjoyed it.  Gavin Meseroll was the day’s big prize winner catching the biggest fish – a 14’ fluke!  Way to go Gavin…    View photos of July 24 fishing.
The next fishing tournament will be on August 14th from 10:30 – 11:30…just show up with your fishing pole and we will provide the bait and refreshments!

Summer is not over yet…Stay tuned for more exciting news from Junior Entertainment!!!
